Should the current season's stats be the primary consideration in selecting players for the All-Star Game?
You're absolutely right that fans can't vote objectively. Also, there are less than casual fans that don't know anything about the game and only vote for the names they've heard of. Russell Martin is a good example of how fans don't vote objectively. He's been the best catcher in the NL by a long shot this year, yet he's 4th in the All-Star balloting. They do need to find a new way to pick the players. Maybe then the All-Star game can get some of its credibility back and not be seen by the MLB as just a 3 day vacation.
